Casablanca Organics
Casablanca Organics is a family company that grows, harvests, packs and exports organic apples. Within more than 100 acres we grow three types: Gala, Granny Smith and Cripps Pink, to then offer to the Northern Hemisphere during the counter-season.
Casablanca is both the name of a valley and a small town in the middle of Chile. It’s located in between Santiago (the capital) and Valparaíso (the main port).

This valley is very well-known for its wines, the sauvignon blanc, chardonnay and pinot noir in particular. Within this area, surrounded by mountains, there is another small valley called Lo Orozco, where apples have long been grown thanks to the zone’s benign weather conditions and microclimate, as well as by how the isolation provided by mountains helps reduce pests and diseases.
From our twenty years of experience, we can guarantee our costumers that our fruit has been cultivated in Casablanca and Lo Orozco Valley using modern concepts from sustainable agriculture.

History
Several years ago, we began developing our approach in the organic fruit industry, back to when my wife and I (both Medical Doctors) conceived the importance of nutrition in people’s health.
We strongly believe that health depends very much on what people eat, especially concerning the intake of fruits and vegetables. Organic fruits and vegetables, grown without using pesticides, chemicals or antibiotics, was to us the perfect way to develop a product that would contribute to better nutrition and overall health.
This is how in 1998 we decided to grow organic apples on our family farm by the motto: ”Healthy nutrition in a simple fruit”.
...Organic farming means replacing chemical fertilizers and pesticides by organic inputs such as compost and compost tea or other certified organic products. After five years of growing our orchard by organic means, we finally ended up seeing it was not sufficiently sustainable, so we went one step ahead and introduced Agro-ecology, a farming concept in food production that makes best use of nature’s goods and services, without damaging said resources. To do that, we had to improve biodiversity by enhancing diversity in landscaping, green covers, and microorganisms in soil and trees. That way we reinforce natural ecosystems that interact with living plants and trees, improving biological processes and allowing trees to reach their best potential, by making them healthier and providing them with a better immune system, which basically means they become productive and resistant to pests and diseases. We also take into account social sustainability by teaching our workers agricultural concepts and benefits that arise from not being exposed to toxics or chemicals in their work, so that they may consider applying those same concepts in their orchards at home. We wanted to build a long-term business through responsibility and care for our customers, to provide them with an apple of the best possible quality and flavor, cultivated in an eco-friendly and socially sustainable environment.
